Stephanie M. Halmo

(she/her)

Welcome

Glad you're here! My name is Stephanie and I'm currently a postdoctoral research associate at the University of Georgia working with Dr. Julie Stanton in the Department of Cellular Biology. I'm deeply interested in student thinking and learning in the undergraduate life sciences. My research interests lie at the interface of problem solving and metacognition.

I completed both my B.S. and Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the University of Georgia. For my Ph.D., I pursued a split dissertation doing both traditional bench research in the field of glycobiology under the mentorship of Dr. Lance Wells and biology education research under the mentorship of Dr. Paula Lemons.

Before pursuing my graduate studies, I taught middle school science in rural South Carolina as a Teach For America corps member. In my spare time, I like to go on hikes, try out new restaurants, solve crossword puzzles, dance with my performance group, and tie-dye anything I can get my hands on.
